Ingredients
Scale
- 1 kg fresh gooseberries
- 1 kg granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1/2 cup water
Instructions
- Prepare the gooseberries by washing and removing any stems.
- In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, crush the gooseberries lightly and add water. Simmer until they’re soft.
- Add sugar and lemon juice to the mix, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
- Bring the mixture to a boil and continue for 10-15 minutes until it reaches the setting point.
- Once the jam is set, remove from heat and let it cool slightly. Skim off any foam from the surface.
- Carefully ladle the jam into sterilized jars, then seal.
Notes
Ensure all utensils are clean and sterilized to prevent spoilage.
The setting point for jam is 105°C (221°F); using a thermometer could be helpful.
Lemon juice helps in setting and acts as a natural preservative.
